ALDD – Adolescent Logic Deficit Disorder

imageHave you heard of ALDD?  It stands for Adolescent Logic Deficit Disorder.  It is a name I came up with to keep my sanity when I had no other way to explain my teenager’s complete lack of logic. Somewhere out there in a medical journal, I know there exists the scientific name for this adolescent condition.  You may even recognize your teenager in this post.

When my son was about 16 years old, he got his first vehicle.  It wasn’t much to speak of and certainly not a chick-magnet, but then since when did Jonathan need a magnet.  He came out of the womb magnetized.  The ladies at our church nursery called him, “The Flirt.” His friendly nature and dimply smile attracted many people. Out Of The Mouth Of Babes

imageKayli, a petite and curious seven year old, was our first foster child. She had been with us for nearly a year. It was quite a struggle at first. But, we finally came to understand each other. I grew very fond of that little girl.

One afternoon, she watched intently while I put on lipstick as we were getting ready to leave the house. I decided to try a bolder, reddish color I seldom wore. After carefully applying it, I examined my reflection in the bathroom mirror. Hmm, not bad. I thought. Continue reading →

Many years ago I found myself in a very dismal place in my life. After an extremely painful childhood and troubled teens, I was weary of searching for love in wrong places. I thought my life would take a turn for the best when I got married. My new husband had a large family. I hoped to finally gain the love and family I ached for my whole life.

Coffee, Tea, or ‘Scuse Me?

20130307-233301.jpgMid-December of 1995, we invited everyone in our Bible study to a Christmas party at our house. Our new addition was complete and we were excited to show everyone the finished work. I was so happy the house was finally tidy and organized. Our days of living with drywall dust, sawdust, wood chips, and tools all over the place were finally over. Anyone who’s lived through home remodeling will know what I mean. Living under a construction zone is extremely tiresome. The kids were very excited about the party and willing to help. We put up our Christmas decorations and got ready for the party.

An Unforgettable Deed

I became an unwed mom in the summer of 1980 at 23 years of age. Then my babysitter quit abruptly, leaving me stunned and stranded. I depended on the childcare in order to work my full time job, my only means of support. I drove to my mother’s house and asked if she’d watch my baby until I found another babysitter. Our relationship had been strained as far back in my early childhood as I could remember, but I really believed she’d help me out considering the urgency of the situation. Of all people, I felt sure she would understand. Her mother helped her care for me when I was a baby and she was an unwed mother.
