A Surprise Inside The Sparrow

Inspired by scriptures about the sparrow and the lyrics to the song, His Eye Is on the Sparrow, I chose my blog’s name, His Eye Is On This Sparrow.  I then wanted an image to represent this name and theme.

After much thought, I came up with an eye to represent God’s eye, then drew a sparrow

His Eye Is On This Sparrow

reflected in the eye.  I used coloring pencils to fill in the colors.  I have looked at this image at least 50 times, and only saw the lowly, common sparrow.  Yesterday, a blogger friend surprised me with a comment.  George made a comment on the post God’s Hand Is Mightier Than A Falling Tree, about a tree that fell on my car years ago. Then, she pointed out something I never noticed about the image I drew and chose as my avatar. You can see the conversation below. Continue reading

Beautifying The Blogosphere With Encouragement

beautiful_bloggerawardpurple_revI have been nominated for a Beautiful Blogger Award because a beautiful blogger found beauty in my posts. I must confess, this leaves me feeling very honored and a bit spoiled. These blogger awards uplift and encourage bloggers in a wonderful way.

A million thanks Sheila for this award.  Sheila, I truly admire the way you write your poetry.  Your way to de-stress, as you put it. What you are doing for your mother with Alzheimer’s is priceless.  May your kindness come back to you one-hundred-fold.  Please make sure to visit her blog at http://sheilamariegrimes.com/ Continue reading

God’s Hand Is Mightier Than A Falling Tree

What I saw when I went outside.

I was daydreaming while washing lunch dishes when I heard the front door slam.

“MOM! MOM! You have to come outside! A tree fell on the car!” Continue reading

Linking Hearts Through Award Nominations

The Liebster Award is one of many awards available to encourage new bloggers, and to help us discover new blogs to enjoy.  It’s a great way to link hearts with other bloggers!

Many thanks to Rhonda of Dizzy Stir for thinking of me and considering my blog for nomination.  It’s an honor to be thought of.  May your efforts be twice blessed, Rhonda!  I truly enjoy her tongue-in-cheek posts, humor and creativity.  Though I don’t know her, she seems like someone anyone would want as a neighbor.  Please check out her blog Dizzy Stir at:   http://rhondaerb.com/ Continue reading

ALDD – Adolescent Logic Deficit Disorder

imageHave you heard of ALDD?  It stands for Adolescent Logic Deficit Disorder.  It is a name I came up with to keep my sanity when I had no other way to explain my teenager’s complete lack of logic. Somewhere out there in a medical journal, I know there exists the scientific name for this adolescent condition.  You may even recognize your teenager in this post.

When my son was about 16 years old, he got his first vehicle.  It wasn’t much to speak of and certainly not a chick-magnet, but then since when did Jonathan need a magnet.  He came out of the womb magnetized.  The ladies at our church nursery called him, “The Flirt.” His friendly nature and dimply smile attracted many people. Consumed By Necessary Distractions

imageThe biblical story of Mary and Martha is one I can personally relate to.  For those not familiar with the story in Luke 10:38, I will briefly fill you in. The sisters Mary and Martha, are the same whose brother Lazarus was called out of the tomb by Jesus after he had been dead for four days.  John 11:1-44.

“Remove the stone covering the tomb.” Jesus ordered. I can just hear the monumental intake of breath as the many mourners gasped at the thought of the dead man in the tomb, in the heat of the Israeli climate. “ He’s been there four days, there will be a stench,”  Martha told Jesus. Forgotten Parents – A New Kind of Empty Nest

We wiped bottoms and washed faces,

And took our children to many places.

We cut countless meals into tiny bites,

We made it through untold, sleepless nights.

We survived those frightening, terrible twos,

Film Negatives From Yesteryear

“Life is like photography, we develop from the negatives.” This had been handwritten on a white board at my chiropractor’s office.  I ran into that saying another time that week, which prompted me to include it in my post. Continue reading
