Okay, everybody. The book is available, finally!  I am totally nervous and super excited all at once.

As promised, here is the first chapter to Black Coat with a Silver Lining.  Enjoy!!!

Chapter 1

Crossing the Line

I hopedthe kitchen staff was intensely preoccupied, and would not see me sneak in their back door. Not believing my rotten luck, I scurried to make it in before my evening turned even more disastrous.

After two days of half-eaten candy bars and countless bags of potato chip crumbs, I had been looking forward to Memories of Sicily’s exquisite Italian food. In my ravenous state, I fantasized about the pasta primavera, the linguini, the lasagna, and the irresistibly crunchy-creamy sweetness of the cannoli.

Book Update 2

Elizabeth Yalian's avatarElizabeth Yalian

Hello Friends,

imageBlack Coat with a Silver Lining: A Homeless Man Finds Hope, has been sent to CreateSpace the Amazon self-publishers. It should be available within a couple days they told me. I am so excited!

I hope you will find Nick’s story was worth your wait.

I wanted to apologize for not posting anything on the book this week.

It has been a doozy of a week with me working madly to get the book done. I’m still dealing with sciatica off and on.  Wow, what a nightmare that is.

I am not exaggerating in the least when I tell you I have practically worked on this book around the clock this week. Several times, I asked my husband not to even talk to me for hours so that I could stay focused on getting this out.

He’s pretty anxious for me to get this book out too so he can…

Book Status Update

Elizabeth Yalian's avatarElizabeth Yalian

image Hello friends, just wanted to let anyone interested in the status of Black Coat with a Silver Lining that I have been feverishly working to get this book out by this weekend but may not make it because of the holiday.  If I don’t get it out then, it will be out next week.  I will post the first chapter as soon as the book is ready to make its debut.

To everyone out there,

Happy Passover!

Happy Easter!

May your weekend be blessed!

Here is more of a description of the book.

Nick’s story is sure to steal your heart as you immerse in the fictional memoir of a young man’s struggle with loss, tragedy, and heartache.

Shattered by his current circumstances, Nick, a former foster child, feels estranged from the world around him, and is weary of living on the frigid streets. One evening, his dream of an Italian feast turns hopelessly sour…

Behold the Lamb John 1:29

image

The original Passover freed the Israelites from Egyptian Slavery.

The final Passover frees anyone willing to come to Jesus from sin and spiritual slavery.

Jesus’ death on the cross freed us. Because of ours sinful nature inherited from our original parents Adam and Eve, we owe a debt to God we have no ability to pay off. Much like when we break laws on earth we owe a debt to society. Except the debt we owe to God is way beyond our ability to repay because, well, God is God and we are not; we are simply His creation. God wanted us in Heaven, but because of that sin and that debt, we are not allowed in Heaven. Continue reading

Writing Fictional Characters

My non-writing friends may think I have gone nuts, but I’m sure my writing friends will be able to relate.
Hello friends, I have set up a new blog only for books I am writing/have written. Be blessed, Elizabeth

Black Coat with a Silver Lining

Creating Nick, the main character of Black Coat with a Silver Lining has been touching, rewarding, entertaining, educational, and enlightening.
I wrote about compassion, love, humanity, struggles, betrayal, family, abandonment, heartache, poverty, hunger, self-bashing, foster care, faith, God, grace, forgiveness, everlasting peace, and the carnage caused by self-centeredness and divorce; and I learned about homelessness, missions, getting arrested, and going to jail. Overall, I wrote about the consequences one person suffers because of someone else’s decisions and choices.
Just like when we read a fictional novel and we can visualize characters in our head and feel their feelings, I can see and feel my characters.  I know them so well, I find myself seeing certain people when I’m out and about and thinking, that’s how…

The Butterfly Effect – Promote Yourself

I love this poem!

poetreecreations's avatarpoetreecreations.wordpress.com

 catterpllia

I was a gorging caterpillar Consuming everything I could;

It was my nature, I knew no better, To me, it just seemed so good.

Then shame struck me and in searing pain I cocooned myself away from sight;

And in that shell You dealt with me ‘Til I was ready to return to the light.

Now I’m reborn a beloved butterfly Crafted with detail and engaging flair,

Painted with love by Your master hand, Molded with Masterly care.

As I flap my wings Who knows what effect You will impart through me?

Creating simple ripples, Affecting complex lives, Of people I may never see.

All glory to You, Whose perfect plan Finds a way to use unworthy me!

What an amazing God, Loving Father and guide,

Who heard my voiceless plaintive plea.

ACRBA – Ray Hawkins: From Eden With Love

So true.

booklovers1's avatarbooklovers1

108ba-fromedenwithlovelarge_fmt Now, before you ask if I am married or am in a relationship, let me answer this for you: No, I am not. I just thought you would like to know, as I am not as knowledgeable as some (most) of you. I had a hunch that this devotional was going to be about marriage, but I wasn’t quite sure. The other devotional by Hawkins was really good and so I couldn’t just let this one pass. Who knows, maybe the stuff I learnt will come in handy one day 😉 And learn stuff I did!
The section that resonated with me was the beginning. Hawkins gave some great metaphors and comparisons with the Garden of Eden and our relationship with God. Ever been confused or never really understood what is meant by being Brides of Christ or with Jesus being the second Adam? Well Hawkins will give this greater…
