Behold the Lamb John 1:29

The original Passover freed the Israelites from Egyptian Slavery.

The final Passover frees anyone willing to come to Jesus from sin and spiritual slavery.

Jesus’ death on the cross freed us. Because of ours sinful nature inherited from our original parents Adam and Eve, we owe a debt to God we have no ability to pay off. Much like when we break laws on earth we owe a debt to society. Except the debt we owe to God is way beyond our ability to repay because, well, God is God and we are not; we are simply His creation. God wanted us in Heaven, but because of that sin and that debt, we are not allowed in Heaven. Continue reading

Do We Expect Too Much?

I learned something last night.  I am taking a self-help class on a book called Safe People. A profound book on relationships that’s backed by Scripture.  We discussed relational peeves in our group. I shared two experiences.

Scenario #1

Kindness Matters

image

Recently, I was with a good-sized group of ladies. As people talked about their heart-wounds it made me realize that extreme pain and anguish are everywhere. One can drive down any street past rows of houses, and believe it- it’s a sure thing that just about every house is inhabited by at least one or two deeply wounded souls. Continue reading

Don’t Look Back!

Is there a pillar of salt in your past?

In Genesis Chapters 18 and 19, we read about God’s appearance to Abraham in the form of a man, along with two other men who are actually two angels.  They come to declare to Abraham and Sarah that in a year their son Isaac, the promised child, will be born.

Then God shares with Abraham that He is about to set judgment on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous” Genesis 18:20

Abraham, concerned for his nephew Lot and Lot’s family who live in Sodom, tries to bargain with God not to destroy the city if there are at least 10 righteous people there.

In God’s eyes, Sodom and Gomorrah’s wickedness is so vile there is no other option to do but destroy it.  He cannot even find 10 righteous people in the entire city of Sodom.  God is gracious with Lot’s family for Abraham’s sakes.

The two angels are sent to Sodom to rescue Lot, his wife, and two daughters from being destroyed along with the city. Continue reading

A Holy Land in America?

Someday I would like to visit Israel, the Holy Land of the Bible. Whether I will get to do that or not I don’t know but I was really amazed to find out that since 2007 there has been a Holy Land right in our very homeland, the United States of America. Of course, it is not the genuine Israel, but it comes in as the next best thing if one is unable to fly to the Middle East.
The good thing about this park is that there are no extensive airplane flights and airport nightmares or costs ( unless you have to fly to Florida), there are no time-zone adjustments (well, maybe a couple of hours depending on where in the U.S. you are coming from), and the atmosphere, weather and climate are much friendlier.
Where is this Holy Land? Continue reading

Things Haven’t Changed Much in 3000 Years

imageIn Psalm 19: 13-14 David says,

13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. NIV

Then, 1000 years later here’s what Jesus says about our words.

In Matthew 15: 10-20 Jesus responds to the Pharisees’ comments about his disciples not traditionally washing their hands before they ate.

10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Continue reading

Rejoicing in Jesus’ Birth

imageHow Much Does God Love the World?

God So Loved The World That He Gave…

HIMSELF

in the body of a frail newborn named Jesus.

But…why would He do that?

He came in our form so that we could better relate to Him.

So that He could teach us about Himself.

So that He could show us what real love looks like. Continue reading

Does God Celebrate Christmas?

cropped-image5.jpg

Well, seeing how Christmas is a mixture of pagan and Christian traditions, I don’t believe God has a Christmas tree decorated with lights and cherubs.

I don’t believe He adorns the halls of Heaven with twinkling lights and bows of greenery.

I don’t believe the heavenly host rush around their kitchens making millions of divine delights for their annual cookie exchange.

I don’t believe God has shopping requests, or naughty or nice lists. (Though He does say all the names of those who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb have been written in His Book of Life)

I don’t believe December 25th is highlighted on God’s calendar.

God certainly is not a Santa, swooping down as earth sleeps, dropping gifts into chimneys. Continue reading

Celebrate Jesus This Christmas

imageDon’t let the world dictate your Christmas with its pressure to buy this and that at every turn.  Of all the toys and the gifts given this year, most will be forgotten or broken by next Christmas.  But, what is really going to matter in fifty or one hundred years? Or a thousand years!   Continue reading

He Lives Because Jesus Lives!

image

Thinking of you, son. You live in my memories.

I hang on to mementos and childhood memories of jokes, smiles and laughter.

I am grateful for silly boy tactics, bouquets of wilted weeds, and a boy’s imagination.

I am grateful for the precious boy’s face I looked into and the hands I held.

I am grateful for the many “I lub you, Mommy!” and “I’m hungry!” I heard throughout his childhood. Continue reading
