Thy Will/My Will

imageThere are those who say to God:

“Thy will be done.  We will submit our wills to you, and place our eternity into your hands.”

God’s reward?

They will find His Blessings on earth, and spend all of eternity in His Heavenly kingdom with Him, crowned as His children.

Psalm 17:8  “Keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me under the shadow of our wings.”

Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

Then there are those to whom God says:

“Thy will be done. Go and do as you seem fit.  Your eternal future is in your own hands.”

Psalm 10:13  “Why does the sinner reject God? He says to himself, “You will not hold me accountable.”

In Matthew 23:37  Jesus is speaking to Jerusalem, but this applies to anyone who does not choose to place their trust in God.

“How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings but you were not willing.”

There was a time that as a Christ follower, I haphazardly lived under my own will, fooling myself into believing I was submitting under God’s will.  I made foolish decisions I now regret and made huge mistakes I still pay for.

As I look back, the floodlight of discernment magnifies my erroneous thinking then.  I remember the times I forced my will into God’s will. He was just not moving quickly enough for me. I was not willing to wait.  I won the power struggle, but lost the blessings and joy I could have been living under. I was miserable.

Many heartaches later, I am happy to submit myself to Him as I have found out that if I am living my life outside of His will, no matter how ideal the situation may seem, I will be miserable.

Thankfully, God did not give up on me, or as some like to say: “Throw me under the bus.”  He didn’t wring His hands or fret over me wondering what would become of me either.  He kept His eye on me and taught me a few lessons along the way, until I was ready to say:

“Uncle,” or actually,

“Yes Lord, I will submit to you now. Thy will be done!”

Joshua 24:15  “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

  1. Mmm. I try to remember to cry “Uncle” early on. It goes much better then! 😉

Tkx Liz for your candor; ‘…mistakes that I made that I will pay for.’ Well my friend, you are not alone here, but God can multiply the fruit of honesty and use our poor choices for the good.

Remember our brother Peter? ‘I know NOT the man??’ Yep, the same man who would later say ‘YE have taken by wicked hands and slain…’ God forgets the sins of his own, we should too. ‘Forgetting what is past…’

His love is running over, what a Saviour.

    • Yes, definitely, what a savior. Very sweet of you, such encouraging words. Actually, I was referring to mistakes we have made long ago that we “still” pay for because of their consequences. For example, a terrible marriage choice, a bitter ex’s negative influence on our children, words we said to someone who refuses to forgive, etc. Though our mistakes may have happened ages ago, we still have to deal with them in the present.
