A Tribute To The Only Father I Have Ever Known

Father’s day has always been a very painful day for me. I felt the emptiness of never having met my father while growing up. I felt an even greater loss, because he didn’t care about me at all. He walked out on my mother when she wouldn’t abort me. This year, I chose to do something different. I chose to honor the father who has always been faithfully with me, with this poem.

My bio-father wanted me aborted,

A heartbreaking fact I have had to bear.

His wishes, however, were thwarted,

By another father who surely did care.

A father with much richer, future plans,

For this embryo, so fragile and forlorn.

He guarded me with his very own hands,

Instead of allowing my flesh to be torn.

He protected me when I was small,

And kept watch throughout my youth.

Though often, I did flounder and fall,

In his time, he led me to his truth.

My life has been quite laborious,

My strength has often grown thin.

But through his love, I am victorious,

And have received renewing joy from within.

And in my most darkest of moments,

Through those places I could not endure,

When my soul resembled crushed fragments,

He has proven his devotion, ever more sure.

I am tied of tongue and weak of knee,

That he was even interested in me.

I’m very humbled at his loving grace,

Can’t wait to thank him face to face.

So on this day set for honoring a father,

And in the absence of an earthly dad.

I honor my comfort, my refuge, my anchor,

The only father I have ever had.

My Heavenly Father, God.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO THE MOST PERFECT, MOST GRACEFUL, MOST LOVING FATHER I HAVE EVER KNOWN, MY HEAVENLY FATHER, GOD.

Psalm 68.4-6 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
he leads out the prisoners with singing;

Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
