A Pursuing God

AND I WANT TO BE PART OF IT

It never ceases to amaze me that the GOD OF ALL CREATION—THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR—Longs to be part of our lives.

In real estate it’s all about:

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

With God it’s all about:

RELATIONSHIP, RELATIONSHIP, RELATIONSHIP

From Genesis to Revelation the message is clear.  God wants to have a relationship with us.

A very perceptive person came up with this statement:

“God created man in his image, and man returned the favor.”

Really though, isn’t that what we do?

God cannot be found in an image or statue created by human hands.

He is a LIVING BEING. He has emotions.

He does not have our emotions because we gave them to Him.

We have His emotions because He made us in His image!

God beckons His people to come home to Him.  He longs for a relationship with us.

I have been working on a short-story-fiction I am about to release.  The main character, Nick, is a homeless man who through a chain of unfortunate, but divinely orchestrated events discovers the God of the Bible. Below is a fitting quote from Nick:

“The very people God sought out neglected him, rejected him, and chose to do their own thing. These people were losers like me, yet God still loved them. I was in awe over the concept that God cared so much about people that he pursued them like a parent longs for his child, or like a lover seeks his betrothed. His relentless pursuit of humanity continues into our present day.”  Elizabeth Yalian, “The Black Coat with a Silver Lining

All of my life I longed for someone to truly love me, cherish me, and long for me.

I tried to fulfill that longing in art and creativity, in men and in relationships, in alcohol, in food, in busyness, and in material possessions.

You know, STUFF.

Shopping usually quenched my longing for a day or two.  I’d bring my cherished prize home and admire it. Then the luster wore off whatever I bought shortly after, BUT the appetite continued. It was the same with the other things I used as distractions from my deep emptiness. They held my appetite and longing to be loved at bay for a short time, but once the “high” wore off; I always ended up with the same hollow feelings.

I always craved more.

Then this ironic epiphany hit me one day.

All this time God has yearned for me to unconditionally love Him; I have been yearning to be unconditionally loved!

He was there all along while I looked everywhere else.  But His love for me didn’t evaporate because I chose other paths. He continued to long for me and waited patiently, knowing that one day I would “get it,” and see that all that I ever wanted and could want was waiting for me in Him.

It’s much like we tell our kids things and they think.  “Oh, it’s just Mom or Dad. What do they know about our generation?”  Then one day they finally get it!  “Oh, that’s what you meant!”

From our kid’s perspective, we supernaturally become smarter as they get closer to their thirties.

MAJOR EYE OPENER!

A fulfilling relationship was waiting all along.  A match made in heaven.

Amazing Love can you believe?

This Awesome God will not retreat.

Though we carelessly cause him to grieve,

In his powerful love a solution did weave.

A plan to keep us from eternal defeat.

A plan that on our own we could never achieve.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 15:13-17  Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends…  You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.  These things I command you, that you love one another.

1st John 4:8-11 He who does not  love does not know God, for God is love.  In this the love of God was manifested  toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might  live through Him.  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He  loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Beloved, if  God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

  1. Elizabeth,
Great message and personal testimony! That God continues to pursue us no matter what we do is not a well known fact. Thank you for bringing this into the light. Betsy
