A Time To Be Deliberate

Did you make any new year’s resolutions?  If so, how’s that working for you?

If you are like most people, right about now you’ll start floundering.  Mid-January begins to feel like a heavy lunch on a warm day.  Sluggish.

  • We begin to lose fervor for our resolution.
  • We begin to see our goals as illusions.
  • Our good intentions grow thinner with each day.

Does that sound like you at all?

New Year resolutions go unresolved because we often don’t take them seriously enough.  We then give up. Many times we try too hard to fulfill them on our own, and don’t ask God for help, or family and friends for support.

In Ecclesiastes 3:1, Solomon the wisest man ever, says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”

This year, the Lord has been writing this in my heart’s wall:

“There is a time to turn bad habits into growth, and this is your time. Be deliberate.” Continue reading

Let Us See Through Your Eyes, Lord

image

I came across this verse during my Bible study devotion today.

Mathew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[ your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”  NIV

I especially liked the wayThe Living Bible put it.

22 “Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. 23 But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will be!” Continue reading

Sometimes, We Just Need a Real Perspective

My friend Vern Westgate sent this email out just before Christmas.  I found the pictures to be a fabulous glimpse of America’s not too distant past during the hardship of The Depression Era.  Really worth seeing.  It will open your eyes to how blessed we really are.

I thought Vern had a great idea in sharing this, and with his permission (thanks Vern), I am passing it on hoping you will get as much out of Vern’s perspective and the amazing pictures as I did.

America really does have an immense amount to be greatful for.

Thank You God!

——————————————————————-

Hi, Here’s my perspective for you having a Merry Christmas in spite of the current state of our country…and the attacks against my Christian faith…(and your Christian faith too, I hope…)

These stark pictures are from the Depression. They were taken 72 years ago, when I was a 7 year old kid in a great Christian family…We moved from Minnesota to California a few months ahead of Pearl Harbor. So we went from the tough Depression life to rationing…(5 gallons of gas per week, sugar and meat were rationed as were other things), no new cars were built for 4, 5 years…millions of men went to war and most stayed until it was over. My dad built B-25s and P-51s… Continue reading

Trust God No-matter What

God loves you and has your best interest at heart.

Often, the world makes no sense at all,

that is why it is so important to trust God completely, especially then.

imageBelieve it.

We don’t always see it at the time,

but as time passes and we look back, we can usually say,

“Oh yeah, now I see why that happened!

Thank you God for looking out for me!” Continue reading

Jesus Came to Earth to Bring Life

imageI find the amaryllis to be an enchanting flower of Christmas, though it is technically not a Christmas flower.  Surely you have seen the six-by-eight inch boxes at your local stores that come out around Thanksgiving.  The pictures on the boxes display a flower that looks much like the one above.  These unique and beautiful flowers have the ability to bloom indoors.  They come in white, pink, pinkish-yellow, red, orange, and variegated colors.

The box is quite inexpensive, about seven dollars, and it includes a five inch plastic pot, plenty of dehydrated soil, and of course the bulb.  It also includes weeks of joy as you watch the dead bulb give birth to beautiful flowers. Continue reading

How Precious Are You to God?

image

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

The worth of something is based on what someone is willing to pay for it.

Jesus thought you and I were worth the very living blood in His body.  He paid a great price for us because of His love for us.  Just as most parents would go to any length to pay a great ransom price if their child is kidnapped.

EXCEPT that we willingly walk away from God.  BUT—He still is willing to redeem us. Continue reading

God Also Uses The Phone

imageThe article below was posted on BookLovers1 blog. It is a phenomenal article.  When I read it, it immediately brought to mind my own similar story.

A Call From God

One Saturday night, a pastor was working late and decided to call his wife before he left for home.  It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn’t answer the phone.  The pastor let it ring many times.  He thought it was odd that she didn’t answer but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes.  When he tried again, she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn’t answered before, and she said that it hadn’t rung at their house.  They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways.

The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he’d used that Saturday night.  The man that he spoke with  wanted to know why he’d called on Saturday night.  The pastor couldn’t figure out what the man was talking about. Continue reading

Dog Owners Beware

OliverWe almost lost this precious little guy pictured above a couple of days ago.  Oliver had been chewing on a rawhide bone.  The kind with the knots at the end.  At first, I thought he was going to throw up and was getting ready to take him outside when I realized he was choking.  He had a piece of rawhide lodged in his throat he apparently tried to swallow.  I tried to do the Heimlich maneuver on him with no results which was also hard to do because Oliver is so small.  I also tried to dislodge it with my fingers but it was too deep.

“Oliver is chocking!”  I yelled out.  Continue reading

What is a Godly Man?

:

What Women Want in a Godly Man
5 traits that reveal true marriage material.

I am passing the link on as I believe it is a very important message.  Please visit the magazine site. It also promises to do an article on “What Men Want in a Godly Woman” tomorrow.

The lady that shared the article on Facebook  pointed out she would like to find a man who loves her more than his Xbox.   It would be a funny statement,  if it was not so pathetically true.

This is how I responded to her.

“In this day and age men who value their Xbox less than the woman in their life are not easily found, but don’t give up; they still exist!  And may I add a man with class and a bit of chivalry is a must!”

Personally this is something else I would add to Ms. Fileta’s list.

Nothing makes me lose the respect of a man (or woman) more than one who uses foul language or talks or jokes about crass things.  As Matthew 15:18 puts it.  “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and it is those things that make a person unclean.”

The words from his mouth tells a lot about his heart.
