Sharing a Grandparent’s Legacy

image I received the sweetest gift from my daughter. It is a journal called: Grandma, Tell Me Your Story, with 124 prompting questions . The beautiful keepsake is for me to fill out and someday give to my grandson. The journal pages are striped with pink lines to write on. It is filled with thought provoking quotes and images, and has designated spots for pictures: like your first house, your first pet, the teen you, etc.

This precious family heirloom is packed with typical family history questions, and asks about family holidays and recipes. But I was surprised by the more in depth questions like:

Who named you, and how was your name chosen?

What kind of child were you?

What was your neighborhood like?

Did you keep a diary?

Feel like divulging any family secrets? (I won’t tell)

When at eighteen years old he ages out of the system he tries to live a normal life, but because of a series of unfortunate circumstances he finds himself alone and homeless. Peace Comes Through Faith

image Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress,
and for their children it will be a refuge.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
turning a person from the snares of death.

Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

A heart at peace gives life to the body,
 but envy rots the bones.

Proverbs 14:26-27  29-30

You Can’t Go Wrong Pleasing God

imageI was just yesterday talking to a friend. We were discussing a study she was doing and how she suddenly realized that we all wear masks. We try to please others by becoming who and what we think they want us to be. I agreed there is much truth in that. As a former people pleaser, I aimed to please those close to me, often at my expense. Continue reading

What’s With the Falling Trees?

In the silence of night, in the tranquility of the darkness, a tree fell in our front yard approximately sixty feet from our house; and we did not hear a sound.

Trunk broke at the bottom.

Tree approximately 60 feet from house.

Half top of tree laying on the ground green but bottom half branches dead. Will have to check out other trees also.

God Spares Us Once More

I don’t know what it is about trees falling and me, but this is the third tree that’s fallen in my yard. One was 22 years ago, then another one fell, mid November 2013.

It’s a frightening thing to think that something so huge and destructive can happen so close to the house. Thankfully, it only caused some damage to the pasture gate. Continue reading

Like each breath of air we take,

God is still there when we can’t see Him.

We cannot live or flourish without Him. Continue reading

A HOMELESS MAN FINDS HOPE A HOMELESS MAN FINDS HOPE

I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS STORY OF A HOMELESS MAN, AND WANT TO RAISE AWARENESS OF HOMELESSNESS, AND OF KIDS THAT AGE OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM AND END UP ON THE STREETS.  I BELIEVE WE NEED TO CARE ABOUT THIS BECAUSE A HUMAN BEING SHOULD NEVER BE DEVALUED.

My book is finally out on Amazon. You can read the first chapter here.

When my very first-ever book went live, intermingled with the excitement, I felt a huge surge of apprehension run through my veins.

Did I miss typos or grammar issues?

Should I have given my manuscript what would have felt like my one hundredth sweep?

I bet if a person looks close enough, they can find imperfections, and most likely the longer they search for flaws the more they will find.

It’s like anything else in this world. Have you ever had a job you’re basically…

Okay, everybody. The book is available, finally!  I am totally nervous and super excited all at once.

As promised, here is the first chapter to Black Coat with a Silver Lining.  Enjoy!!!

Chapter 1

Crossing the Line

I hopedthe kitchen staff was intensely preoccupied, and would not see me sneak in their back door. Not believing my rotten luck, I scurried to make it in before my evening turned even more disastrous.

After two days of half-eaten candy bars and countless bags of potato chip crumbs, I had been looking forward to Memories of Sicily’s exquisite Italian food. In my ravenous state, I fantasized about the pasta primavera, the linguini, the lasagna, and the irresistibly crunchy-creamy sweetness of the cannoli.

Black Coat with a Silver Lining Update

Book Update 2

Elizabeth Yalian's avatarElizabeth Yalian

Hello Friends,

imageBlack Coat with a Silver Lining: A Homeless Man Finds Hope, has been sent to CreateSpace the Amazon self-publishers. It should be available within a couple days they told me. I am so excited!

I hope you will find Nick’s story was worth your wait.

I wanted to apologize for not posting anything on the book this week.

It has been a doozy of a week with me working madly to get the book done. I’m still dealing with sciatica off and on.  Wow, what a nightmare that is.

I am not exaggerating in the least when I tell you I have practically worked on this book around the clock this week. Several times, I asked my husband not to even talk to me for hours so that I could stay focused on getting this out.

He’s pretty anxious for me to get this book out too so he can…
